[ARCHIVE] Boulder River Report 05/20/19

As with the Stillwater, flows on the Boulder dropped a bit with the cooler weekend weather, but are still running high and will likely climb and continue to run off color with rain in the forecast this week. It’s going to continue to fluctuate in reaction to rain and temperature patterns. The forks will kick in off color water, so flows may be clearer, but swift, up above Natural Bridge. Nymphing along the edges is probably the best bet with a rubber leg nymph pattern like a girdle bug or Pat’s rubber legs in black, brown or coffee color along with a beadhead trailer fly like a prince nymph, hare’s ear, batman or pheasant tail. Also try basic buggers in black and olive or the Grinch for streamers. At some point soon, the river will likely start running extremely high and off color again and will be best to just stay away from it. We still have a ways to go in runoff.
