Create Life Long Family Memories
As far as Montana rivers go, the Stillwater River is a smaller, 70 mile long, tributary river of the Yellowstone. The Stillwater comes to life just south of the Beartooth Mountains, flows northeast between the Absaroka mountain range, and passes through Nye and Absarokee. The Stillwater offers you outstanding Montana mountain views and a handful of prime fishing sections. The name of this river is quite deceptive, as most of the Stillwater River includes heavy rapids with occasional slow moving areas which should be navigated by experienced river guides only. There are many opportunities along our route to wade fish as well. Like many of Montana's rivers, the Stillwater’s cold waters are ideal trout fisheries - home primarily to rainbows and browns. Our guides commonly float the stretch of the Stillwater that meets the Yellowstone; at that point the in the river you’ll commonly spot larger rainbow and brown trout, and Rocky Mountain Whitefish.
From dry fly action in the spring to streamer fishing for spawning brown trout in the fall, the Yellowstone has it all for anglers of all experience levels and ages.
