[ARCHIVE] Yellowstone River Report 07/23/18

Flows have continued to drop and warm up. After a plug of off color water came through, clarity is once again improving. Look to get out early on the bright and sunny days as fish will be skittish about coming up to the dry fly. Dead drifting buggers or other streamer patterns along with a stonefly pattern or a big rubber leg like a girdle bug is a good option or fish a batman or prince nymph. There may be some action on the big dry like a Chubby in some of the smaller side channels. There are lots of hoppers out in the fields along the river, so don’t hesitate to start throwing hopper patterns like a Yellowstoner Chubby or Fat Frank. If float fishing, note that the road at the Indian Fort FAS at Reed Point is closed.

  • The last river report for the Yellowstone stated that the twin bridges access was “virtually impassable”. The current report makes no mention of the condition of the twin bridges access. Was the access repaired to the point that you can trailer to the river’s edge?
    Thanks for the reply.

    Mike Hastings,
    • Hi Mike,
Some folks from Reed Point went in a week or so ago and did some repair at Twin. Although it’s rough, you can put in and take out there.
